I saw a commercial on a local TV station today Friday, December 15, 2006, a Pastor Joe Phelps of someplace in Virginia telling folks not to shop at Wal-Mart because according to him, Wal-Mart is hurting and or mistreating and or cheating child employees, according to the pastor Joe Phelps, he asks the question “what would Jesus do,” implying Jesus wouldn’t shop at Wal-Mart. Is this supposed pastor a nut cake or what? Do you suppose he would even recognize Jesus if Jesus himself walked up to him and said hello? I doubt it. First of all, since when does Wal-Mart employ children? To the best of my knowledge, you need to be at least sixteen to eighteen to become employed at Wal-Mart and if you don’t like working for Wal-Mart, why not find another job someplace else? And number two; I got news for you, Jesus does shop at Wal-Mart, Jesus shops at Wal-Mart every time I shop at Wal-Mart, you know how I know, I know so because Jesus is alive and well in my heart and mind and by my side every minute of every day and night and has been for the past 46 years, and I shop at Wal-Mart quite often, in fact, Wal-Mart does something for me that no other store does and that is their price matching guarantee. I don’t have an automobile, so, when the weekly food ads, and weekly Sunday adds come out in the local newspaper, I have two choices, I can look at all the items on sale throughout the ads, hop on the local city bus and go to each individual store to get what I want that is on sale that particular week, many of which I simply miss because there isn’t a bus to the store having the sale, or, I can simply gather together and take all the weekly store ads to my local Wal-Mart store, put everything I want that is advertised on sale at all the other stores around town in my shopping cart, and simply show the published advertised store add to the clerk at the checkout isle and the store clerk matches the advertised price no questions asked, botta bing botta boom, I get everything I want on sale and I only need to go to one store to get it. I can’t vouch for Wal-Mart’s labor practices because I don’t know Wal-Marts labor practices but I sure as heck can vouch for Wal-Mart as a consumer, and I can also tell you I’ll continue to shop there, at least until I experience for myself, or until somebody can give me a better reason than this quack Pastor Joe Phelps. We all saw what a hypocrite Fred Phelps turned out to be; perhaps Pastor Joe Phelps is a relative of his. Perhaps more priest and pastors should take a good look around and smell the roses before asking the question “what would Jesus do,” the majority of them wouldn’t even know Jesus if he punched them in the face.
